Well-told stories put audiences first.
As someone who’s performed standup in rural Texas bars and performed poetry in suburban Connecticut towns, I know how to read a room and connect with an audience.
Storytelling
My authentic stories blend humor and heart while mining my experiences for truths.
Stories ranging from my daughter’s complicated birth to Mom’s end-of-life care may be found on my storytelling page.
Speeches
As a comedian, lawyer, Toastmaster, and recovering politician, I’ve presented in front of many audiences. I even once “trespassed” onto a wedding venue to officiate the wedding of a solider to his “best gal” the day before he shipped off to Iraq.
My public-speaking accolades include winning multiple Toastmasters’ speech contests (such as second place in the quarterfinals of their International Speech Contest), emceeing the Blue Drop Awards at the Drupalcon tech conference, and making a waiter cry at the restaurant where I gave my Dad’s eulogy.
Recent appearances include delivering a keynote address to the National At-Home Dad Network’s annual convention (titled “What Do You Do All Day?”: Sharing Your Personal Story with Authenticity and Humor) and performing on the closing-night comedy showcase at the 2022 Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop.
Comedy
A lifetime ago, I regularly performed standup comedy in Austin, Texas. My three-year-journey into standup started at open mics and ended with regular bookings throughout central Texas.
Notable credits include being a month-long host at the world-famous Velveeta Room and performing at the Out of Bounds Comedy festival.
Performing multiple times a week for three consecutive years feels comparable to earning a Master’s degree in humor writing and performance.
